Darlington - Rufus F. Harper, Rt 1, Crawfordsville, a 90-year old retired farmer of the Garfield community died Tuesday afternoon at the Ben Hur Home in Crawfordsville. He had entered the Home the previous day. Born July 31, 1875 at Edmonton, Ky, he was a son of Pascal and Melissa A. Crawford Harper. He was married to Florence Nichols in Kentucky Sept 1, 1904. She died July 12, 1953. Mr. Harper came to the Garfield area in 1919. He was a 50-year member of the Darlington Lodge 186 F&AM and a member of the OES Chapter 297 of this community and of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. Survivors include a son, Roy of Rt 1, Crawfordsville; two grandsons, James R of Rt 1, Crawfordsville and Glen H of Noblesville; two granddaughters, Mrs Florence May Wright of Lafayette and Mrs. Mary Ann Caldwell of Advance and 16 great grandchildren. A brother and 4 sisters preceded Mr. Harper in death. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Friday at Bright Funeral Home, Darlington Rev. Harry Hybarger of Rockville will be the minister and burial in Darlington's Greenlawn Cemetery. - kbz
